Hi, we are puzzling over the best application format to use as standard on
our Web (intranet / external site) from an accessibility perspective.
We are aware that accessibility in PDF is now improved using alternative
text and structural tags, whilst the latest version of JAWS supports both
PDF and Office document formats.
Word has many customisation features, but seems to rely more on Windows
tools for actual accessibility (such as speech).
Acrobat seems to have more integrated user tools for accessibility, such
as 'read aloud', screen magnification, colour customisation and auto-
scrolling.
Aditionally, both the PDF viewer and MS viewers are free from their
respective Web pages.
Obviously HTML conversion is the ideal solution, but I have been asked to
consider the option of using an application format to allow staff to
manage their own documents in a content management system.
Does anyone have any views on the more suitable of the two formats for
accessibility on the Web?
thanks
Paul
