MEDICS treating a dying autistic teenager were told by a doctor "let's get
the trough out and feed it", his family claims.
He was also ignored by nurses and a vomit-filled container was left next to
his bed for 48 hours.
Hospital chiefs have admitted the consultant may have made comments about
Christopher Smith, 18, "which were not appropriate".
His father David said: "The way Christopher was treated was disgusting. He
spent his final days distressed and alone."
After an inquiry, staff at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, have been told
their behaviour was "unacceptable" and an apology has been issued.
Christopher, of Bilston, West Mids, died in February last year of natural
causes several days after bowel surgery.
Mr Smith has launched a campaign to make all hospitals train their staff in
dealing with people with learning difficulties.
