Hi,
as some of you may have noticed, there is a scheduled meeting of this
working group during DC2004 in Shanghai. The draft programme shows a
tentative DC Arch WG slot on Wednesday 13.00-15.00.
We need to think about what we want to do with this time.
My thoughts are to use the time to focus on finalising the Abstract Model.
In order to do this I will prepare two documents:
- an updated (and hopefully close to final) version of the abstract model
working draft
- an updated list of issues. Note that the issues list that I prepared
for the last Usage Board meeting is at
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/metadata/dcmi/dc-usage/am-issues/
We could also possibly spend some time going over the possibilities for
clarifying the resource vs. literal issue in the RDF encodings (should
DCMI recommend the use of strings or resources or both (as currently) as
the values of DCMI properties?). If we do want to tackle this, then it
might be useful if people tabled short position papers (by email) on what
they think is the best way forward.
Finally, if the right people are around, it might be useful to get an
update on where the W3C work on embedding RDF in XHTML has got to... since
at some point this work will presumably have an impact on the currrent
DCMI recommendation for embedding DC into HTML.
I'm concious that this is a somewhat similar agenda to the one we had in
Seattle - which is ultimately a reflection of the lack of progress during
the year. But, well... such is the life of a DCMI WG I suppose :-(
If anyone has any other issues that they'd like to see on the agenda for
Shanghai, or indeed any other suggestions, please share them here.
Thanks,
Andy
