International Postgraduate Workshop on
Advances in Cultural Geography
Mon 27th – Weds 29th September 2004
Grey College, Durham University
The Social and Cultural Geography Research Group of the RGS-IBG is running
an ESRC sponsored international workshop bringing together postgraduates
and faculty from the UK, Denmark, Finland, France and Spain. It is open to
any interested UK postgraduates who have finished their formal research
training and are now working towards a PhD.
The workshop will cover:
• Practicing cultural geography
• Theories of spatiality
• Dwelling as a research approach
• Comparative traditions of cultural geography
• Visual methodologies
• Professional development in a European academic labour market
It will be organised around a mixture of practical activities, formal
presentations, discussion sessions and readings. Faculty from the 5
countries will give presentations and lead discussions. The sessions will
be designed to be inclusive and give chance for discussion and development
of ideas among delegates.
Costs and eligibility
The workshop is open to any student registered for a PhD in the UK
addressing issues in cultural geography and invited students from Denmark,
Finland, France and Spain. Students from elsewhere are invited to contact
the organisers who will endeavour to help resource permitting.
Places are limited to c.45 in total but are subsidised with a fee for UK
students of £45 – event rooms, accommodation and full board are provided
for this cost -further bursaries may be available resources permitting.
