you're right about the aims, but as Tim says you don't need the CVS source
for this, only the distribution source. Distributed packages, built
directly from the CVS archive, are (or should be, once it's all working)
sufficient to do a build on systems we haven't seen before without
requiring any of our customised build support stuff (automake, autoconf,
starconf etc). People who need the CVS source will be developers
(including us)
