Subject: Academy for Social Science Request
Dear Academician,
Review of ESRC's Future Priorities
The ESRC has invited the Academy for Social Science to undertake an exclusive consultation of all our Academicians regarding ESRC's future priorities. Your participation is extremely important as our Academicians represent a unique pool of expertise within UK social sciences. The aim of the survey is to respond to a set of four central questions posed by ESRC, and to provide some comment on related issues that are likely to be important to the social sciences in the UK.
Given the very limited time frame this survey is being conducted on-line, and should take around 15 minutes, depending on how much you wish to say.
The survey is primarily quantitative, but we hope we have included sufficient options for answers that your views can be adequately reflected.
The content reflects points highlighted in previous Academy reports, including the International Roadmap for the Social Sciences (Forbes, Abrams, Graves & Hutchison, 2002), The Cutting Edge: Current and Evolving Research in Leading Social Science Journals (Forbes and Graves, 2002), previous surveys of Academicians (2000, 2002), the Commission on the Future of the Social Sciences (March 2003), and consultation among the Council members of the Academy (June 2004). There is an opportunity to add comments if you feel anything important has been left out.
The Academy must prepare a report by early September, and therefore we invite you to complete the survey at the earliest opportunity.
To complete the survey please go to the following website:

Thank you very much in advance for your kind assistance.
Kind regards,
Sharon Craig Dominic Abrams
Director Chair - Committee of Learned Societies
