We are seeking several teaching assistants to lead seminars in an
introductory module in social science methods at the London School of
Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, October - December 2004. This
module will form part of a Post-Graduate degree in public health
and/or other related health areas. The module includes a basic
introduction to both qualitative and quantitative data collection
methods and the associated seminars are run as practical workshops.
Duties would include attending the weekly lecture (as part of the
audience) and then leading the associated seminar (to about 8 to 10
students ). We would provide all teaching materials (e.g. seminar notes
and suggested activities) so that preparation time would be minimal.
Desirable qualities:
- Social Sciences background (e.g. sociology, psychology, anthropology, ect).
- Experience of empirical research (either quantitative or qualitative or
both).
- Experience of teaching students of diverse abilities and backgrounds.
- An interest in health issues
Pay would be a £100 per session (plus travel expenses) and there will be
10 sessions in the module. The module will start at the beginning of
October and run until mid to late December. Seminar leaders would be
expected to undertake to attend all sessions (sessions will run
Thursday PM between 1400-1700).
