medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This quote is interesting to me because it reminds me of a sermon I heard in a
Baptist church where there was no crucifix--jogging my brain to note something
I often noted before--there seems to be a lot of similarity in sermons, whether
before of after the reformation, catholic or protestant.
I remember a paper which I wrote for a course in the medieval church in which I
discussed one of the Bickling Homilies [vernacular sermons for the Old English
period] and showed that its theology was actually quite consistant with that of
conservative, protestant, evangelical churches [which are often quick to
distance themselves from medieval catholics].
I'm curious. Has anyone else made this sort of observation?
