Marilyn,
There are one or two studies of literacy levels and discharge instructions in the Emergency Department, which were done in the 1980īs and published in either the Annals of Emergency Medicine, American Journal of Emergency Medicine or Academic Emergency Medicine. Sorry I cannot find the citations for you, but I am on vacation and have limited time to access the internet.
Good luck,
Dan

Dear list members
Would anyone know of any studies/references relating to literacy level,
health, access & use of health care services? I am particularly interested
in UK based studies, but would generally like to hear about any studies
going on else where.
Many thanks,
