Hi Muhammad
Interesting one this. I've not come across much on this, and what I have is
generally policy stuff which positions time as something to which an
economic value is attached. This is a little sad as surely we are not simply
'rationale economic man' and therefore travel time needs to be
reconceptualised in a broader sense to include other factors which influence
the 'value' of time. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that
could be of use, though John Urry in 'Sociology beyond societies: mobilities
for the 21st century' does discuss time and mobility more generally. If I
come across anything I'll be sure to let you know.

Subject: Bicycle Value of Time
Hi all
I am wondering if there is any research on value of time estimation for
bicycle travel especially in relation to other modes of transport. The
study conducted for Dept. of Transport "Value of Travel Time Savings in the
UK" (avaialbe at www.dft.gov.uk) has detailed study on value of time for
different modes and trip purposes howerver there is no discussion on
bicycle. I have failed to find any mention of bicycle in other value of
time studies, i.e, those conducted by World Bank. It would be worthwile if
some of you could comment on as to how much a bicyclists travel time be
valued compared to car occupants time and for what reasons.
Thanks
Muhammad
