Further information;
I am currently attempting to rsync a fresh copy of the CVS off of saturn,
dangerous I know given last night experience, but if I can get an up to date
copy off I will build an ISO and write a DVD of the archive, which I can
then post to Norman.

Saturn is back up and running again.
The HISTORY file in the CVS, indicates it's last modified date as 10:47pm
BST from 22nd June. What time we're you committing files Tim ? Looks from
the messages like you finished your commit at about 10:47, which would tie
in well with the history file.
It appears the machine crashed at approximately 01:40 this morning, the last
thing logged is an attempted rsync by Norman, this rsync threw up some
errors with some files not being transferred, and error "(code 23) at
main.c(372)" which is going to require further investigation.
Did anything odd happen at your end Norman ?, I assume you didn't get much
at all from the rsync since it only lasted about 1 second !.

The server saturn appears to have rebooted itself sometime shortly before
1am BST, and was stuck with some disk errors which is why it had not come
back up. It appears it was having some problems with a large rsync job just
before it shutdown.
The machine is not running on mirrored disks, however the CVS repository is
well backed up. I am currently running through the scans of the disks due to
the unclean shutdown and will report back when I have further information.

Tim,
Stsve is out of the Lab (for the rest of this week) but I have just managed
to find Duncan - he had not spotted saturn (aka cvs.starlink.ac.uk) was down
but he is rushing off now to look at it!
