Hello,
I have never heard of Southwick in Sussex being pronounced other than as
South-wick. I have not heard the railway theory either.
Southwick (Sussex) would be a very small place before the railways, and it
was the oyster fishing that were important in its expansion, helped by the
railways (oysters to market). The new oyster fishermen came from East
Anglia.
Suthwic (now Sussex) was most important during Roman times.
Cheers
Andy Horton.
