There are many economic essays questions (especially macroeconomics)that
require students to relate to their domestic economies. Many students
already find difficulty in producting a standard macroeconomic model in
essay format - relating it to their domestic economies? Hit-and-run?
Many students do not even know where to start!
My suggestion is to get a team of economic academics who can at least
provide pointers in relating macroeconomic models to respective domestic
economies.
Hi Colin, Duncan, everyone
In November of last year, Singapore's A level students were faced, for
the first time, with a case-study paper. The nature of the beast is such
that not only can it not be 'mugged' for there is no reservoir of past
questions upon which students can, amongst other things, practise
applying macroeconomic theory to their domestic economies. This means,
at least until teachers and students become case-study smart, the paper
be able to perform its function of discriminating amongst the students.
I think this is an area that students could benefit from access to
informed advice on eg case-study techniques, more so than the essay
paper.
What do you think Colin?
