I am working at the World Bank in an effort to promote an inclusive approach to
our various projects in health, education, and employment.
I am continually asked the following questions I've listed below. If any of you
know of any empirical research that could be of use in answering these questions
I would be extremely grateful. I really need academic type studies that
rigorously analyze data.
Let me stress that I wholeheartedly believe in a rights-based approach. The
world is about more than dollars and cents. But to generate financial support
from donor countries info on dollars and cents helps a lot.
1) What (if any) are the additional costs of making new school and health clinic
construction accessible?
2) In many countries, unfortunately, the approach is still to institutionalize
people who are mentally ill or who have cognitive disabilities. How much money
could be saved by providing services to that successfully help those people be
integrated into mainstream society, instead of institutionalizing them?
3) What are the economic costs and benefits of programs (such as voc rehab or
disability management systems, etc) that support the efforts of people with
disabilities to find and retain employment?
Thanks,
Dan
