A gas works site is currently being remediated and redeveloped within our
Borough. Due to the dry windy weather we have had a number of persisitant
complaints from the residents who are concerned about what is in the dust
covereing their cars and being carried in the air.
In all liklihood, the amount of any contaminants they are actually exposed
to is minimal, but to be on the safe side and hopefully reassure the public
it is felt within the department that we should undertake some analysis of
the dust.
I am concerned however that if the dust contains some level of gasworks
contaminantion that this could cause more harm that good due to the fact
that residents are likely to see that any amount is harmful, whereas
obviously it depends on the amount present and how much they are actually
exposed to and for how long.....
What I am asking is if anyone could suggest what standards the dust should
be compared to or whether it would be wiser to employ someone to undertake
full analysis/risk assessmnet of the dust.
Any comments welcome!
P.S. I have tried the rain dance methodology to no avail at the moment!
