A ONE-DAY WORKSHOP
SHAPING TECHNOLOGIES FOR MUSEUM DESIGN AND INTERACTION
Friday 11th June 2004, 09:30 - 16:00
The University of Nottingham, UK.
The Shape project, part of the European Disappearing Computer Initiative,
will be hosting a workshop on new technologies for interactive experiences
in public settings such as museums and galleries. The aim of the workshop is
to present some of the outcomes of Shape and related projects such as the UK
's Equator project and to discuss them with other researchers and
practitioners.
The workshop will bring together researchers from the areas of ubiquitous
computing, social interaction and IT, design and psychology to exchange
ideas and systematise the body of understanding around museum design,
technology issues and learning, education and social interaction in museum
settings. The workshop will also be open to commercial technology, content
and services providers and conference organisers.
The workshop will be held at The University of Nottingham's Mixed Reality
Laboratory on Friday 11th June 2004.

Shape has been a three year project within the European Disappearing
Computer Initiative to explore how ubiquitous and mixed reality technologies
can be used to create engaging public experiences for museums, galleries and
similar public spaces.

The Mixed Reality Laboratory of the University of Nottingham, is on the
Jubilee Campus, Nottingham. The nearest airport is East Midlands. It takes
about 30 minutes by taxi (taxi fair about 20) to get to the University.
Alternatively, there is a direct train service from London (train ticket
about 40), which gets into Nottingham in just under 2 hours,with a ten
minute taxi journey (taxi fair about 5) to the University.
