Susan,
It's very nice to meet you and I can identify with your isolation! I would
love to share some training strategies, ideas and documents. My position is
new to the University, so I am in the process of training development and
deployment. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hello
I was very happy to discover this list a couple of weeks ago. (Not that it
seems to have been used by anyone lately!) Naturally, given the name, I
assumed it was aimed primarily at Assistive Technology Trainers.
I would love to see it take off like DIS-FORUM because I can't be the only
trainer who feels a little isolated sometimes in a huge sea of Assessors!
It would be great to have contact with other trainers in order to support
one another and to share training strategies, ideas and documents.
I have attended so many meeting where much of the content is directly
related to the assessment process and has little to do with me. It would
be a shame if this list becomes bogged down in assessment issues instead
of tackling training issues and giving/receiving support.
Of course trainers need to keep abreast of certain issues especially when,
like me, you may be responsible for meeting assessor's IT/AT training
needs as well as those of students. However, I feel that this list should
be kept for its specific purpose.
At present, Trainers professional development needs have not been
addressed by QAG nor have the standards and quality of training we
provide. Some may feel releived not to be under scrutiny as assessors are
but training is an absolutely vital part of the whole process and we are
doing a disservice to students by ignoring the training quality and
standards. We are also in danger of being very poor stewards of public
funds.
If there are any other trainers out there subscribed to this list, please
post so that we can identify one another!
Best wishes
