Hi Ernie,
Not just most of your summer hols but 'most of the next year!'.
We have had a meeting with our CC specialist within college & had sight
of books referencing CC to construction, hair&beauty, social care &
others, which were commissioned by the professional bodies involved with
these areas and consultants brought in to develop them - all
co-ordinated by Basic Skills Agency, however, not so with IT.
Apparently, no co-ordinating professional body to initiate this!!
The task is MEGA when you see the others, beginning from the standards
and drawing out a full matrix across all areas and CC references,
identifying which are met through ICT programmes and which are to be met
elsewhere & how?

However, I do not wish to be dragged down to despondency, perhaps if we
get more responses we might be able to influence someone, somewhere, to
help us. Or else, a small group do it & market it when complete - who
knows? I do have the basic skills expertise to roughly know where I am
going, but another specialist on board would be beneficial - preferably
both in ICT & BS.

My focus at Bedford is to develop the Foundation ICT area - Entry &
Level 1 & we follow the new BTEC Intro progs

Keep in touch & we'll see
Regards,

Heather B Petty

Hello Heather,

My name is Ernie Pepper and I am the Course Tutor for the GNVQ
Foundation
course in ICT here at Peterborough Regional College. It looks as though
I
am heading for the same situation as you and under much the same
conditions.
It is a lot better this time though, as it is happening now instead of
late
in August. I am also likely to be working on the level 2 and 3 courses.

I was thinking, the same as you, that at least the work towards a Basic
Skills or Key Skills qualification will have to be referenced to the
Basic
Skills Core Curriculum and that that would put paid to most of my summer
holidays.

I would be pleased to co-operate with you on this project. Have you
made a
start? Has anyone else shown an interest? What is the range of courses
you
are working on?

Ernie
