Joint MA in Sociology and Health Studies (Oct 04) One year full-time;
two years part-time
The Department of Sociology and the Department of Health & Human
Sciences at the University of Essex announce a joint taught MA in
Sociology and Health Studies. This scheme will be delivered by both
departments, with students taking core courses as well as a range of
options from both departments.
Students on the MA scheme will take four full courses and will also
submit a dissertation based on original research.
The compulsory components of the degree are as follows:
* Themes in Health (offered by Dept of Health and Human Sciences)
* Sociological Research Design a half course offered by Dept of
Sociology) plus one other half research methods course in the Dept of
Sociology
* Contemporary Debates in Sociology (offered by Dept of Sociology)
* A choice of two other half options from either Sociology or
Health & Human Sciences postgraduate course catalogues
The dissertation in a health related topic may be supervised by either
the dept. of Sociology, or the dept. of Health and Human Sciences,
depending upon the area of research.
