New City Architecture Exhibition
DATE: 21 May 2004 - 2 July 2004
VENUE: Finsbury Avenue Square, Broadgate, London EC2
TYPE OF EVENT: exhibition
DESCRIPTION: London is the financial capital of Europe - a role that
is led by the City of London, the traditional home of banks, insurance
companies and insurance brokers. To maintain its prime position as an
international trading location, the Square Mile must ensure that it
can provide sufficient high quality office space to meet the demands
of the modern business user.
The exhibition - New City Architecture - is the initiative of the Lord
Mayor of London, Alderman Robert Finch - who wished to celebrate the
world class quality design and urbanism displayed by recently
completed buildings in the City.
Despite the major changes that have taken place to the City fabric
over the past fifty years, the character of the area remains intact -
and indeed has been enriched. The delicate balancing act of creating a
place for people as well as big business is illustrated in this
striking exhibition.
The 21 buildings included in the exhibition were selected by an
international jury chaired by the curator Peter Murray and made up of
Josep Acebillo, City Architect of Barcelona, Aaron Betsky, Director of
the Netherlands Architecture Institute, Deyan Sudjic, the Editor of
Domus and Rowan Moore the Director of The Architecture Foundation.
Open Wed to Mon 11am - 6pm, late night Thurs until 8pm, closed
Tuesdays
