works for java 1.4.2, but not for 1.4.1:
% cvs diff -r1.5 -r1.5.4.1 HdxTest.java
Index: HdxTest.java
===================================================================
RCS file: /cvs/java/source/hdx/src/testcases/uk/ac/starlink/hdx/HdxTest.java,v
retrieving revision 1.5
retrieving revision 1.5.4.1
diff -r1.5 -r1.5.4.1

Unfortunately the org.apache.xalan.Version class was only introduced
after Java 1.4.1_06! So the test doesn't compile under the stardev JDK
(or run under the stardev JRE). Norman given that you're going to be
in Boston next week I can do something about this (like maybe just
comment the test out) if you're too busy.
