Susan,
Current guidance on retention of healthcare records is within the Health
Service Circular 1999/053 "For the Record" which is on the Dept of
Health website at:
http://www.dh.gov.uk/assetRoot/04/01/20/36/04012036.pdf
The circular is currently undergoing comprehensive review but represents
the position within health at present.

Subject: Retention of records
Apologies if this query seems too simple, but I am new to this and would
REALLY apprecaite any help.
What I am trying to determine is how long the following sorts of records
should be retained for :-
Medical Records GP notes
Doctor/Nurses Reports
EEG printouts
Medication records
etc, etc
Educational records Work completed
Teacher's/Tutor's reports
Daily notes
etc, etc
Social/Care records Reports
Daily activity records
Child Protection issues
etc etc
Admin records Funding details
Correspondence
etc.etc
I have discovered the Information Commissioner's Code of Practice for
Personnel records, but I am unable to find any other Codes or Guidance,
upon which I could base my company's policy.
If someone could steer me in the right direction I'd be eternally
grateful!
Thanks - Sue Turner
