Hello Julie,
You create the linkages by viewing the video in Qualifiers and clicking
the mark button when you wish to put a "file & timing mark" reference
into your transcript at the text cursor. Later when you look at the
transcript you can click on the "file & timing mark" reference to bring
up that section of video evidence. So they are synchronized. Afterwards
however, Qualifiers does not retrieve the relevant bit of transcript
while you are viewing a movie.
Qualifiers does have "transcriber play" and "mark back." The
"transcriber play" button toggles between stopping the play and playing
back starting two seconds previous to the stop. This is similar to the
old tape transcribers that rewound the tape a few seconds when you
released the foot pedal. "Mark back" is the same as mark except that it
subtracts two seconds from the timing mark inserted into the
transcription. This is useful when you are in a hurry and want to mark
and label on the fly while watching without hitting stop.
We are also playing with software called "Live Video Logger." It has
the "mark back" capability while logging live video.
Another one is PastRecorder that we did in 1995. It lets you
selectively record live audio after you hear it, using a RAM buffer
(say 10 seconds). I guess TiVOs do that, although I have never owned
one. No more "blind recording!"
Aloha,
Tom
