My condolenscences to your relative.
Management will need to be centered around minimizing the eventual kyphosis.
Maintenance of spinal ROM for as long as possible (extension ROM, rotation)
stretching of Pec's, strengthening of back extensors (thoracic) and cervical
retractors/flexors, and scapular retractors/depressors, and training
him/herself to sleep supine without a pillow.
Hope this helps and I hope that the course of the Ankylosing Spondylitis in
your relative is a mild one.
