MA in Sociology and Health Studies, Oct 2004(One year full-time; two years
part-time)
The Department of Sociology and the Department of Health & Human Sciences
at the University of Essex announce a joint taught MA in Sociology and
Health Studies. This scheme will be delivered by both departments, with
students taking core courses as well as a range of options from both
departments.
Students on the MA scheme will take four full courses and will also submit
a dissertation based on original research.
The compulsory components of the degree are as follows:
·Sociological Themes in Health & Health Care (offered by Dept of Health
and Human Sciences)
·Sociological Research Design (a half course offered by Dept of Sociology)
plus one other half research methods course in the Dept of Sociology
·Contemporary Debates in Sociology (offered by Dept of Sociology)
·A choice of two other half options from either Sociology or Health &
Human Sciences postgraduate course catalogues
The dissertation in a health related topic may be supervised by either the
Department of Sociology, or the Department of Health and Human Sciences,
depending upon the area of research.
