We use the ASL 4000 and found that the trait-off between tightness of the headband / helmet (for more accurate
measurements you don't want the equipment to 'slip over the subjects head') and comfort for the subject is a tricky one.
There are individual differences between subjects in shape and size of the skull, and in the amount of hair / boldness
that seem to influence the comfort and or development of headaches.
Therefore we think that it actually requires a set of helmets and headbands in different sizes in order to accomplish
the most optimal comfort for each of your subjects. (Of course you'll need brackets on all your helmets / headbands to
mount the equipment on all these different helmets / headbands.)
If there is a good fit between helmet / headband and subject, then subjects can easily wear the helmet for half a
working day without complaining. If the fit is not correct it may be so that subjects complain, like you experienced,
about headaches within 45 minutes.
