I have an ISCAN head-mounted system that was purchased in the mid-90's,
I believe the headmount itself is based on the innards of a welding
helmet? (There are two tightenable bands, one going around the head which
tightens using a knob in the back, and another going over the top of the
head, with a knob on top.) The top band is used to adjust the height of
the system, which the band which goes all around the head is tightened to
prevent slippage. And, yes: if one tightens the band sufficiently to
prevent slippage, then a headache generally results, and for me it takes
less than 45 minutes. My guess is that the pressure on the temples is the
problem.
We have addressed the problem by going to a lighter, more comfortable
headmount. We have a unit based on a pair of raquetball goggles, which is
essentially a copy of one built at RIT by Jason Babcock. Jason's new
design is based on a pair of safety glasses and has eliminated the hot
mirror, and looks very nice.
I am not familiar with ISCAN's current offerings, but I have no doubt that
they have improved during the time since we purchased our unit.
good luck,
Jeff
