The European Summer University 2004 provides an unique opportunity to
learn about and develop solutions to what is now being seen as the key
challenge in addiction policy and treatment - how to reverse the
social exclusion of people with drug problems and achieve social
reintegration. Delegates will hear about and discuss a large number of
initiatives and experiments taking place in Europe concerning the
social reintegration of people with drug problems.
Open Treatment Systems
* Does the social reintegration of problematic drug users start during
treatment processes or at their end?
* What are the mechanisms which link drug treatment to education,
training and employment?
* Do some aspects of current treatment services create barriers to
social reintegration?
Targeted Services
* How do we support the social reintegration of women drug users and
of people affected in minority communities?
* How do prison based responses to drugs and exclusion articulate with
responses in the community?
* How are housing problems barriers to social reintegration and how
are they overcome?
* How can workplace policies support the retention of employees with
drug problems?
Accessing Employment
* How do education and skills training create pathways leading to
sustainable employment?
* Do the aspirations of problematic drug users point in the same
direction as current drug and social reintegration initiatives?
* Should social and economic reintegration opportunities for
problematic drug users be provided through specialist or generic
services?
Speakers from EU and European agencies, Scotland, Wales, Ireland,
