My son has an ASD and has been mainstreamed since kindergarten. He started with
a one-on-one aide back in elementary school and his accommodations were phased
out. He is now in high school and will be applying to college this fall. The
transition may be difficult, but in the end I expect him to thrive. I know a
number of children like him. I believe that if done right (i.e., proper
attitude of the school faculty and staff and proper supports) mainstreaming
works for a big majority of children.

I would to like to hear people's views around the issue of 'inclusive
education'.
Do you believe that children/adults with ASD's and also SpLd's(including ADHD,
Dyspraxia), be educated within mainstream education within Schools, Colleges and
University's.
If Yes, how can this be done?
Within the disabled people's movement my disabled peers believe that all
individuals have the human and civil right to be inclusive education within the
mainstream.
I have listened to a lot of adults and parents who believe this is impossible
and children and adults with ASD's can't be educated within mainstream.
In a recent conference I attended the children who was mostly excluded from
mainstream education was them with ASD's( especially AS) and ADHD.

Colin
