City University's School of Informatics
undertakes world-class research in strategic
areas that include artificial intelligence,
geographic information systems, human-computer
interaction, medical informatics, software and
requirements engineering, and systems
dependability.
The School is offering 11 full-time 3-year PhD
studentships to support ongoing research on
specific topics in these areas, to start in
October 2004 and October 2005. More details on

applications is Friday 11th June at 17.00hrs.
Each application must indicate the key area and
topics (listed above) that the candidate is
applying to, and describe their research
background and interests in that area and topic -
open-ended applications will be automatically
rejected. Final award of the studentships will be
made in early July. Candidates should be
available for interview during the second half of
June, and ensure that referees can be contacted
during that period.
Candidates are expected to have at least a 2.1
Honours Degree or equivalent in a relevant
subject. Conditional awards can be made if
students have yet to receive their final degree
classification. Each successful applicant will
receive a bursary of £14,000 per annum for each
year of the studentship. Studentships will start
on the 1st October 2004 and, depending on
availability, 1st October 2005. More details
