Hi Ben,
As Steve says it basically does not matter if you use one common giis
or two seperate sites but there is less registrating to do for
using a common giis but more configuation for you to do.
The BDIIs only need to look in one place.
At a configuration level you basically manage two site-cfg.h's for
the diffrent farms.

The SITE_NAME_ although published in MDS is basically irrelavent and at
this time only for humans.
The SITE_GIIS is more important of course is used in
ldapsearch -x -H ldap://yource.ucl.ac.uk:2135 -b 'Mds-vo-name=SITE_GIIS,o=Grid'
where everything should hang from as far as the BDII is concerned.
Now suppose you want to go for one super site giis ucl with ucl-hep and ucl-esc
sites under it.
Set up the two sites independetly ucl-esc and ucl-hep as normall but
reference one of your CEs as the TOP_GIIS and TOP_GIIS_HOSTNAME as ucl
on that one CE.
Of course you must set up the extra GIIS on the chosen CE to represent ucl.
This requires /etc/globus.conf to contain the extra
[mds/giis/superucl]
name=ucl
allowreg="lcgce02.ucl.ac.uk:2135"
allowreg="lcgse01.ucl.ac.uk:2135"
allowreg="lcgce01.ucl.ac.uk:2135"
allowreg="lcgse02.ucl.ac.uk:2135"
In LCFG land you should append this particular CE with the following
lines for the extra giis.
EXTRA(globus.giisreg) superucl
globuscfg.localName_superucl ucl
globuscfg.allowedRegs_superucl ce1.ucl.ac.uk:2135 ce2.ucl.ac.uk:2135 se1.ucl.ac.uk se2.ucl.ac.uk
Hope that makes at least some sense.
