Michael,
This does rather suggest that there needs to be discussion on this
particular element. I would agree with you, but this has been very much
the enclave of those people who were involved, or knew of, the AES at
that time. And it was probably very much a London/south-east 'kind of
thing', rather than UK. Is there any background 'stuff' that could be
circulated, or references to critiques of the AES of that time? Did the
CSE do anything that could be reproduced (or do they fall within the
'left' of your note below!).

From the results of the Scottish conference, it will be interesting to
see to what extent the left has learned from the weaknesses and
failures of the old AES in the early 1980s, and the extent to which
current thinking on left economic alternatives differs from the
programme presented by the Labour left in 'Beyond the Casino
Economy' in 1989.
