On the Waterfront: Regeneration of a City
Belfast, 19 November 2004
By assembling forward thinking professionals within (and without) the
construction industry, this conference will facilitate discussion on and
raise awareness of the successful regeneration of Belfast’s Waterfront
development and examine how lessons learned can be employed elsewhere.
Particular emphasis will be placed upon the following interlinking, topical
areas:
Decontamination
Brownfield development
Urban regeneration
Sustainable communities
Developing business
Community involvement
Housing
Environment and habitat
Sustainable development
Social development
The discussion will encompass new acts, regulations and policies affecting
development and construction. Where there is disparity between regulations
in the UK, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland this will be
highlighted giving the discussions an international flavour whilst
retaining a regional emphasis.
This one day conference will be based in the newly developed NTL studio at
the heart of the waterfront development, where facilities include full
audio visual equipment (including projection from digital sources) and a
complementary product exhibition.
The official opening will be performed by a Government Minister or other
high profile person (details to be confirmed).
Potential delegates will include BIAT members as well as other construction
professionals who wish to become more familiar with the challenges that
meet them today or engage in a discussion about how they can prepare
themselves for tomorrow. It is anticipated that the event will attract
around 150 delegates from Northern Ireland, the UK and Republic of Ireland.
If you would like to contribute a paper you are invited to submit an
abstract (200 words) by 31 May 2004 to:
