The Centre for Sustainable Consumption at Sheffield Hallam University seeks
a Co-ordinator for a new Research Network on the Life Span of Consumer
Durables, the aim of which is to develop expertise on issues relating to
the durability of household goods in the context of sustainable
development.
The Network will bring together academics, industry experts and designers.
Funded by the EPSRC and led by Dr Tim Cooper, the project is part of a long-
term research programme at the Centre on the life span of household
products. The Centre is recognised as leading social science-based research
on product durability in the UK and its output contributed to a 5 rated
submission in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise.
You should either possess a PhD or be able to provide evidence of research
experience. Industry experience will be an added advantage. In addition to
a broad understanding of sustainable development and waste policy, you will
have a demonstrable interest in consumer behaviour and product design. The
appointment will commence as soon as possible after 1 September 2004.
