Gerry,
Look no further than TASI to begin with and, in particular, their advice on
www.tasi.ac.uk/advice/delivering/pdf/cdr-dvdr.pdf .
It points to a number of further web sites for more detailed reading but
covers the main issues in a succinct manor. In short it's not just the
archiving one needs to consider but the whole production process:
- selection of appropriate material (not all CD-R's are the same quality)
- using a quality writer
- using the writer in the best manor
- understanding the materials you are dealing with and their limitations
- using appropriate storage methodologies
- taking more than one copy
- migrating to new copies at the appropriate time
- and ensuring you also have the appropriate metadata to use the information
in the future.
