RESEARCH DEGREES AT ST BARTHOLOMEW SCHOOL OF NURSING & MIDWIFERY, CITY
UNIVERSITY
Applications are invited for self-funded or sponsored full and part-time
research degree studies for MPhil and PhD awards or our professional
doctorate, the DHealth.
The School awards an annual PhD studentship (restricted to nurses, midwives
and health visitors) funded by the Research Advisory Board at Barts and the
London NHS Trust. The closing date for this year's applications is 14 May.
The School (RAE rated 4) has particular research strengths/interests in the
following areas: care for older people; perinatal health; mental health;
health risk management; professional and interprofessional learning;
evidence based health care; disability and rehabilitation; child public
health; advanced practice; sexualities and sexual health; public health and
primary care; ethics and philosophical issues; cancer and palliative care;
cardiovascular disease, stroke and applied biological sciences

We are proud of our diverse and vibrant population of research students,
including nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, managers, health
services researchers and service users. Research students are encouraged
to link their doctoral studies to the development of professional practice
in their field. Examination is based on a thesis or portfolio of papers.
