X E.F.T.C European Conference on Rehabilitation and Drug Policy
May 2004 - Crete, Greece
Crete is the largest and one of the most beautiful islands in Greece.
A top destination for thousands of tourists ready to discover its natural
beauties. The scenery is constantly changing. In one place harsh and barren,
in another wooden and gentle. Old stone farmhouses, monasteries and villages
perched on mountain ridges, castles and chapels forgotten on steep slopes.
Shores lined up with forbidding rocks, often inaccessible, but also lots of
endless sandy beaches, wildlife in its chestnut, oak and cypress forests.
Not to mention its palm forests (at Vai and Preveli) and its cedar forests
(at Gavdos and Hrissi). Crete is a history-rich island, the home of the
Minoan Empire, an early centre of civilisation, and Mediterranean lifestyle.
Since Alexandrian times, going through the Roman and Byzantine eras, Crete
is a mosaic of various characteristics that make apparent the signs of
different civilisations and historical eras. The main cities-ports in Crete
- Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia - all grew up on the
north side. Ierapetra is the only port on the south side, on the shores of
the Libyan Sea, facing Africa.
Following the highly successful Europe Against Drug Abuse Conference in
Thessalonica in 1995 - hosted by Kethea. The EFTC is very pleased to
announce that our dear friends and colleagues at Kethea are organising and
shall host the 10th European Conference on Rehabilitation and Drug Policy
during May 2005, the location will be Herklion - Crete - Greece.
