True. The top-level Makefile.in and bootstrap have accreted some
quite baroque (nay, rococo) stuff in the last little while, and might
be ripe for refactoring at some point soon, which would be a good time
to put in that sort of functionality.
At present, the top-level build uses make purely in order to sequence
building the various components, rather than its more usual up-to-date
work.
Hmm. A `make children' would be intelligible and probably easy. Or I
could move the current default target (build from scratch) to be `make
world' and have the default target recurse into the children. Yes,
that's probably best.
