this Quick query for me, and cc. correspondence to [log in to unmask]
Perhps Martin should just ask the IRAF helpdesk (unless they're not
answering).
Thanks,

Subject: Iraf aperture tracing
Dear Quick Team,
I hope you can advise me on a problem I'm having with the Iraf apall
task. I'm extracting VLT UVES echelle spectra, and I'm having great
difficulty telling IRAF which direction of the dispersion axis to read
out along. My problem is that all my spectra are extracted back to
front, and and I want then the correct way round. I know that I can fix
this after extraction by doing a imcopy [*,-*] type thing, but surely I
can avoid this by telling Iraf which direction of the dispersion to
extract along? I tried flipping the input images about the axis
perpendicular to the dispersion, but bizarrely the extracted spectra
stil came out the same (wrong) way round - I don't understand this at
all!. Any assistance in getting Iraf to behave would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Martin Cordiner.
