A-R Editions, Inc., an internationally respected forty-year-old music
publishing company located in Madison, Wisconsin, is seeking a qualified
candidate for the full-time, on-site position of Editor, Recent
Researches. Recent Researches publications-seven ongoing series of
modern critical editions featuring historically relevant and important
music spanning ten centuries-are the cornerstone of A-R's music
publishing efforts. A-R continues to publish thirty new volumes in
Recent Researches series annually. Today, A-R is one of the most active
publishers of scholarly music research and plays an important role in
the dissemination of musical research to scholars and performers

Key responsibilities
1. Edit music and text manuscripts for both content and style to
ensure that individual volumes adhere to a consistent quality
standard and uniform house style. Assist in proofreading music and
text as needed. Interact directly with authors to resolve
editorial and content issues. Ensure that editorial policies
and guidelines are followed. Work with managing editor to promote
continued growth of the series.
2. Direct the efforts of freelance editors, proofreaders, and others
as needed to meet publication goals for assigned volumes.
3. Participate in the development and production of new digital music
products for sale and distribution via CD-ROM and the Internet.
4. Participate as part of the editorial team in the revision of
editorial policies, the review of new book proposals, and other
initiatives as needed.
5. Represent A-R in the professional community by attending and
exhibiting at conferences of organizations such as the American
Musicological Society, the Music Library Association, or others as
needed.
Qualifications
Broad knowledge of music history and musicological research methods,
with specialty work in areas that complement those of the current
editorial staff. Ph.D. or ABD in Musicology required. Publishing
experience and/or strong editorial skills, the ability to organize work
loads and to follow established editorial standards and procedures, an
aptitude for detail, and strong written and oral communication skills
are required. We are looking for a team player able to work effectively
and harmoniously with others, both at A-R and in the music community, to
achieve organizational objectives.
