[with apologies for cross-posting]
As you may know, the Forum on Information Standards in Heritage (FISH) is
the group responsible for setting and promoting standards for the recording
of information about the historic environment. One aspect of this work is
the development of 'MIDAS A manual and data standard for monument
inventories', first published in 1998. Further information is available from
the FISH web-site, www.fish-forum.info.
The second edition of MIDAS will cover the capture and use of geo-spatial
data within Geographic Information Systems (GIS), for example depiction of
monuments and project areas. FISH has developed a draft annexe to MIDAS
covering this topic. It has been based on discussion within the heritage
community, and on developing national and international GIS standards. It is
anticipated that this will be of particular relevance to historic
environment record managers, GIS specialists and those who may need to use
historic environment information in their own mapping systems. The annexe is
now ready to be reviewed to confirm its relevance and the detail of its
content and presentation. On behalf of the members of FISH I would like to
invite you to take part in this peer review.
Peer reviewers will be emailed an electronic copy of the 15-page annexe in
early April (MS word), along with a short questionnaire to help structure
feedback. The deadline for comment will be 3rd May. All comments received
will be gratefully acknowledged in the final publication.
If you wish to take part please email me [log in to unmask]
(off-list please) as soon as possible and certainly by **Monday March
29th**. Should you wish to pass this invitation on to other colleagues,
please ask them to contact me by email by the same deadline.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Edmund Lee, MIDAS Project Manager
