Hi all,
According to press release and oral reports from the 42th social
development commission, held Feb. in New York, the Commission approved the
resolution on disability. Though adopted resolutions are not made
available yet, major points in the resolution are;
*Welcomes the positive steps made towards the international convention in
the working group,
*Requests the Commission itself to continue to provide the views,
especially, social development perspective,
*Requests DESA to support the work of the Ad Hoc Committee,
*Invites UNagencies, independent experts, NGOs to provide suggestions,
*Invites governments, civil society and the private sector to contribute to
voluntary fund to help participation of NGOs from DC and LDC countries,
*Stresses the need for accessibility/reasonable accommodations on
facilities/documentation at the UN.
*Recommends to the General Assembly to take up the Supplement to the
Standard Rules, with a view to adopting it. (Supplement deals with needs
to address issues such as persons with developmental disabilities, women
with disabilities).
