I am the research officer for Disability Council of NSW and I am
currently drafting a discussion paper on housing options. In NSW the
only government funded modification scheme (The Home Modification and
Maintenance Scheme) was initially established to provide modifications
to the home to allow residents to remain in their homes rather than
relocating to hospitals, nursing homes etc. It is under-funded and a
person needing major modification to make their home accessible/useable
may wait 12 months before work begins (if work is approved). While
subsidised, the scheme will cost the owner needing the modification a
percentage of the overall costs. The figure determined is related to
the owner's deemed income.
I'm looking for alternatives to this scheme and would appreciate some
help identifying options elsewhere.
Thanks
Joe Harrison
