For the photographically and/or ethnographically inclined....
My apologies for the cross-posting, but it would be a shame for them not to
include some disability perspective.

Hello everyone,
You are receiving this email because you have signed up on
http://www.anthrojob.com regarding short-term ethnographic assignments
through Context-Based Research Group.
As part of what Context does, we run year long ethnographies on
contemporary topics. This year's project on Mobility Across Cultures is now
into its second issue. Check out http://www.margaretswallkingstick.com to
see the current issue.
The project is put together by sorting through pictures and their
ethnographic stories from you and your colleagues on this list. The authors
of the submissions that get published receive a $100 check from us.
We have begun to analyze the data for this year and now look to deepen our
knowledge on a few fronts. So here's some suggestions on pictures we would
like to see in the upcoming months:
1) Individual expressions of the impact of technology on mobility: In the
first issues we explored the need for historical and cultural perspective
on the issue of mobility across cultures. We now want to show individual
expressions of the impact of mobility on people. Look to capture this
aspect of mobility, get it on film and send it in to us with a
corresponding ethnographic story.
2) Products/Objects/Technological Items: On a very material culture angle,
we want to explore, and almost inventory, the products, objects, and items
that materially illustrate the impact of technology on mobility. It may be
the cell phone on the hip of an eight year old or the Kundu drum in the
hands of a Papua New Guinean drummer.
3) Relationships: Perhaps the hardest thing to show visually is the impact
on relationships that technology/mobility have had. Clearly the way people
relate to one another has changed. We want to show this visually. In this
case, the ethnographic details/story is really key.
So look for these three things and keep those pictures and stories coming
in! Again, if your submission is published on the site, you will receive $100.
Here again is the overall research question for this project:
What is the impact of technological development on our relationship with,
and perception and definition of, space and place? And what are the
similarities and differences across cultures and from around the world?
With each photo, please provide the following:
1) Your name, who you are 2) Where/When you took the photo (place, date,
etc.)? 3) What does the photo illustrate about mobility?
You are also welcome to send along non-digital pictures to:
The Mobility Project, Context-Based Research Group, One Charles Center, 100
N. Charles Street, 15th floor Baltimore, MD 21201
Please feel free to email me with any questions
Thanks.
