if you need a good cheap and cheerful about the level of critical thinking

Bad Thoughts: a guide to clear thinking
For an easy to read book telling you how to interpret important
statistical information involving Bayesian reasoning written by a
psychologist concerned about the appalling difficulties medical
'practitioners' (consultants etc) have in understanding the results of
breast cancer (say) and other screening studies.
Its really important.. it shows how to do Bayes reasoning
using frequencies (easy and intuitive) against probabilities (difficult
and error prone).
Gerd Geigerenzer..
