Hi everyone,
Apologies for cross posting.
The LTSN / HE Academy is investigating aggregation and sharing
information about events and funding opportunities over RSS. (By RSS in
this context I mean RSS 1.0) I've been tasked with looking at suitable
schemas.
Andy Powell suggested the event RSS module as a good starting point:
http://igargoyle.com/rss/1.0/modules/event/
Part of the problem with vanilla RSS is that dc:date refers to the date
of publication of an article etc, whereas with fundops you really want
to know the closing data for applications. However, fundops do fit quite
neatly into the RSS event model but it doesn't really do a full job.
I've come up with the following very quick and dirty list of elements
for a fundops module to augment the event module.
None of the elements would be mandatory:
- award type: research grant, bursary, studentship, prize
Additions and amendments to this list most welcome..
- award currency code
Relevant RFC or ISO standard here please
- award total budget
How much is available overall, i.e. ACME corp. is making a million
dollars available to develop bomb proof suits for coyotes = 1000000
- award minimum value
minimum value for individual grants
- award maximum value
ACME is making grants of up to $30,000 available = 30000
- number of awards available
- typical value of individual award
- award subjects
Goes into DC subject
- award purpose
Research and development of coyote bomb proofing technology
- award target group
Who qualifies for these grants
- award conditions
What they have to do to get one
- how to apply
Finally, the awarding body. The event module has organizer and this
should be used, BUT I don't think it is descriptive enough and maybe we
need to add extra details like postal and email addresses. We could use
the RDF vCard binding for these if required:
http://www.dstc.edu.au/Research/Projects/rdf/draft-iannella-vcard-rdf-00.txt
So my questions:
- has anyone done this already and I've failed to find it on Google?
- I think it'd be nice to roll the geo:point stuff into there as well,
because I think this looks potentially very useful but the RDF in the
examples on the event module page looks really broken to me. Am I right?
- Does anyone know of a nice resolver where I can choose a UK town on a
map and it gives me latitude and longitude back.
(For those of you who aren't familiar with this, I believe the benefit
would be that you could filter your RSS feeds to only include events
within 50 or a hundred miles of where you live.)
- Does anyone have any amendments or an entirely different and much
better set of attributes / elements which they are using in their
fundops databases instead of mine above?
- Would anyone like to comment on my proposed list?
