EPSRC funded PhD studentship at UCL:
HCI ³From Theory to Practice²
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship to study take-up of HCI
techniques in design practice. This position is available from 1st September
2004.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to shape their own
project within the broad area of understanding the possibilities and
challenges of integrating a user-centred perspective with the realities of
design practice. This might focus on understanding barriers within current
design practice; investigating the transfer of a particular usability
technique into design practice; the design of safety-critical systems, or
take a broader perspective.
The ideal candidate will have a good first degree or MSc in a relevant
subject (Computer Science, Psychology or a Design discipline), a strong
interest in HumanComputer Interaction (HCI) and an outgoing personality.
This studentship is one of four posts (2 PhDs, 2 post-doctoral researchers)
on the Human Error Modelling (HUM) project, a collaborative project between
Ann Blandford at University College London and Paul Curzon at Middlesex
University For more information about the project, see
http://www.uclic.ucl.ac.uk/annb/hum.html .
Applicants should apply to UCL by submitting the general PhD application
form, available from
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/graduate-study/application-admissi
on/index.shtml, putting Computer Science as the department and naming Ann
Blandford as the proposed supervisor and writing ³(HUM project)² in the same
box.
International applicants should note that, while eligible to apply, the
available funding only covers fees at UK/EU rates, so the studentship will
not cover all costs. For the successful applicant, the stipend is £10500
p.a. regardless of nationality.
The closing date for applications is Friday 7th May 2004.
