No north-south divide Adrian. I work just down the road from Suzanne and
things have improved enormously over the last 18 months, and I dont mean
just DOH time targets. The whole acute system has been reorganised to
function much more efficiently [shorter stays, earlier and more frequent
senior reviews, better use of facilities outside hospital etc etc]. This has
taken the pressure off A&E as patients can be moved from the dept when they
are ready not when the bed is ready.
I'm not saying everything is rosy in the garden but there is no doubt at all
in my opinion that the situation has markedly improved and continues to do
so.
[agree about the ficticious "flu epidemic" though]
