Hi Graham,
I would be very interested in the outcome of your review.Would you
be prepared to submit an abstract on your work for our PBL
conference in September? The deadline for abstracts has been
extended to 16th April.
I have been trying to use PBL to encourage students to use the
literature and to help them improve their ability to synthesis
knowledge to create personal meaning. As you might expect
students are using the literature more although it can be a problem
to get students to be selective about which sources to use (the first
sources found seems to be enough). There is some evidence of
improvement in the ability of the weaker students to use the
literature effectively but this requires systems to provide formative
feedback and does not apply in all cases. Numbers of students are
very small and I have been experiencing some difficulties recently
getting the balance of power right between students and the tutor
so I would not wish to imply particular significance to these
observations.
Regards,
Helen
