Evidence based policy in education
Queen's University Belfast
March 9, 2004
Professor Tony Gallagher (Queen's University Belfast) with the TLRP RCBN
have organised a half-day seminar on evidence-based policy in education. On
the following day (March 10) there is a full-day conference on the same
theme being organised by the Institute of Governance, Queen's University. In
all there are four sessions colleagues are invited to:
1. education session on the first afternoon
2. lecture on the first evening
3. seminar on the morning of the second day
4. workshop on the afternoon of the second day
(Full programme is below)
For more information about the seminar/conference and to book a place please
contact Professor Tony Gallagher <[log in to unmask]>. Professor
Gallagher will also be able to provide details of where you can find
accommodation, but given the short notice you will be expected to book this
yourself.
There is no cost in attending this seminar/conference (but places are
limited on parts 3 and 4 - see above). As usual the RCBN will be able to
cover any travel and subsistence costs incurred by TLRP researchers - these
claims should be sent directly to the RCBN in Cardiff.

1.00-2.00: Evidence-based policy: what policymakers want and why they want
it
2.00-3.00: The evidence 'gold standard'? The strengths and limits of
randomized control trials
3.00-4.00: Systematic reviews - making sense of multiple sources of
evidence?
4.00-4.30: coffee

5.30-6.15: Lecture by Jerome Ravetz: the governance of science
6.15-6.45: questions and discussion
7.00-7.30: wine reception
March 10
The events on March 10 are run by the Institute of Governance, Queen's
University, and are being supported by the School of Politics and
International Relations and the Graduate School of Education. Participants
on the March 9 programme may attend the morning seminar and/or afternoon
workshop on March 10, but will have to book beforehand. Places are limited
on both events (approx 60 for the morning seminar and 30 for the workshop)
